Lyophilized material is typically held under refrigeration between two and eight degrees Celsius, shielded from light and ambient moisture. Peptides of this size adsorb to glass and plastic, so working procedures often call for low-binding containers and as few transfers as possible. Absorbed water during weighing shifts the apparent mass of a sample, and controlling room humidity reduces that source of error. Once dissolved, solutions are kept cold and used within the interval printed on the accompanying label or certificate. Degradation accelerates markedly in dilute aqueous form.
Identity and purity are judged through a combination of chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography separates the intact peptide from truncated, oxidized, and deamidated variants, and the resulting peak-area percentages yield a purity figure. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular mass and can expose unanticipated modifications. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping support sequence fidelity, while water content, pH, sterility, and bacterial endotoxin testing describe the physical and microbiological attributes of a finished lot.
Regulatory position depends on jurisdiction and on the form in which the material is sold. A branded product holds approval in the United States for a defined indication, and prescribing is confined to that label. Material marketed for laboratory research is not evaluated for human use and carries no such clearance. Independent verification therefore rests on certificates of analysis, third-party testing, and documented chain of custody. The substance also appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list within the category covering growth hormone-releasing factors.

=== 13 January === At least 120 people were killed by shelling in western Omdurman. The Merowe Dam power station was damaged by RSF drones, causing a fire at the facility and power outages as far as Shendi, Port Sudan, Atbara and Omdurman. The SAF retook Karkaraia and Hajar al-Jawad, on the road between Dalang and Kadugli in South Kordofan, from the SPLM-N (al-Hilu). Thirteen people were killed by the SAF and allied militias in an attack on the informal settlement of Kambo Tayba in Gezira State.
== Terminology == The vocal folds are commonly referred to as vocal cords, and less commonly as vocal flaps or vocal bands. The term vocal cords was coined by the French anatomist Antoine Ferrein in 1741. In his violin analogy of the human voice, he postulated that the moving air acted like a bow on cordes vocales. The alternative spelling in English is vocal chords, possibly due to the musical connotations or to confusion with the geometrical definition of the word chord. While both spellings have historical precedents, standard American spelling is cords. According to the Oxford English Corpus, a database of 21st-century texts that contains everything from academic journal articles to unedited writing and blog entries, contemporary writers opt for the nonstandard chords instead of cords 49% of the time. The cords spelling is also standard in the United Kingdom and Australia. In phonetics, vocal folds is preferred over vocal cords, on the grounds that it is more accurate and illustrative.
Research on cannabis is challenging since the plant is illegal in most countries. Research-grade samples of the drug are difficult to obtain for research purposes, unless granted under authority of national regulatory agencies, such as the US Food and Drug Administration. There are also other difficulties in researching the effects of cannabis. Many people who smoke cannabis also smoke tobacco. This causes confounding factors, where questions arise as to whether the tobacco, the cannabis, or both that have caused a cancer. Another difficulty researchers have is in recruiting people who smoke cannabis into studies. Because cannabis is an illegal drug in many countries, people may be reluctant to take part in research, and if they do agree to take part, they may not be honest about how much cannabis they actually smoke.

=== Vascular disease === The infusion of a FFAR2-activating SCFA, i.e. acetic, propionic, or butyric acid, into mice causes short-term falls in their blood pressure. Similarly, patients undergoing hemodialysis that uses a hemodialysis solution containing acetic acid have an increased risk of becoming hypotensive compared to patients dialyzed with an acetic acid-free solution. Long-term oral intake of FFAR2-activating SCFAs also lower blood pressure in mice and humans. Furthermore, FFAR2 gene knockout mice developed perivascular fibrosis (which is an indicator of blood vessel disease), higher end-diastolic blood pressures, and higher pulse pressures. Mice lacking both FFAR2 and FFAR3 had exaggerated responses to hypertension; this seems to happen via changes to the gut epithelial barrier and activation of the immune system. Finally, in the angiotensin II–infusion model of hypertension, mice had reduced levels of FFAR2 in their kidney tissues compared to control mice and a study in humans reported that the levels of FFAR2 in the circulating white blood cells of hypertensive individuals was significantly lower than that in individuals with normal blood pressures. These findings suggest that FFAR2 functions to reduce blood pressure as well as hypertension induced vascular disease in mice and humans and support further studies to examine these relationships.
Nausea: ~ 8%; 1% severe nausea and 1% discontinued treatment due to nausea. Diarrhea: ~ 7%; <1% of patients had severe diarrhea and <1% of patients discontinued treatment due to diarrhea. Less common adverse reactions: <1% A 2018 pooled analysis from three phase III, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies on usage for Opioid-Induced Constipation, found that the numbers of patients reporting adverse effects were similar in both the lubiprostone and placebo treatment groups for all opioid classes (P ≥ 0.125); however, gastrointestinal adverse effects were reported more frequently by those receiving lubiprostone than 2 of the 3 opioid groups. The most commonly reported TEAEs in the lubiprostone treatment groups were nausea (13.4%–18.1%), diarrhea (1.2%–13.9%), and abdominal pain (4.7%–5.6%). In the population overall, the greatest likelihood of experiencing the first episode of any of these three TEAEs was greatest in the first week of treatment and decreased thereafter. According to Medscape, the most common (>10%) were: Nausea, Diarrhea (7-12%), Headache (2-11%). Less common side effects (1-10%) included: Abdominal pain (4-8%), Abdominal distension (3-6%), Flatulence (4-6%), Vomiting (3%), Loose stools (3%), Edema (1-3%), Abdominal discomfort (1-3%), Dizziness (3%), Chest discomfort/pain (2%), Dyspnea (2%), Dyspepsia (2%), Fatigue (2%), Dry mouth (1%).

On September 30, 2009, the NNSA announced that about two thirds of the special nuclear material (e.g., plutonium) at LLNL requiring the highest level of security protection had been removed from LLNL. The move was part of NNSA's efforts initiated in October 2006 to consolidate special nuclear material at five sites by 2012, with significantly reduced square footage at those sites by 2017. The federally mandated project intended to improve security and reduce security costs, as part of NNSA's overall effort to transform the Cold War era "nuclear weapons" enterprise into a 21st-century "nuclear security" enterprise. The original date to remove all high-security nuclear material from LLNL, based on equipment capability and capacity, was 2014. NNSA and LLNL then developed a timeline to remove this material earlier, and accelerated the completion date to 2012.

Human ASH1L protein is 2969 amino acids long with a molecular weight of 333 kDa. ASH1L has an associated with SET domain (AWS), a SET domain, a post-set domain, a bromodomain, a bromo-adjacent homology domain, and a plant homeodomain finger (PHD finger). Human and Drosophila Ash1 share 66% and 77% similarity in their SET and PHD finger domains, respectively. A bromodomain is not present in Drosophila Ash1. The SET domain is responsible for ASH1L's histone methyltransferase (HMTase) activity. Unlike other proteins that contain a SET domain at their C terminus, ASH1L has a SET domain in the middle of the protein. The crystal structure of the human ASH1L catalytic domain, including the AWS, SET, and post-SET domains, has been solved to 2.9 angstrom resolution. The structure shows that the substrate binding pocket is blocked by a loop from the post-SET domain, and because mutation of the loop stimulates ASH1L HMTase activity, it was proposed that this loop serves a regulatory role.
== Predicted properties == Other than nuclear properties, no properties of roentgenium or its compounds have been measured; this is due to its extremely limited and expensive production and the fact that roentgenium (and its parents) decays very quickly. Properties of roentgenium metal remain unknown and only predictions are available.
=== November === 1 November Amid an ongoing boom in artificial intelligence, the UK hosts the world's first international summit devoted to safely managing the technology. Computer simulations reveal that remnants of a protoplanet named Theia could be inside the Earth, left over from a giant collision in ancient times, which afterwards formed the Moon. Dinkinesh, previously thought to be a single asteroid, is revealed by NASA's Lucy probe to in fact be a binary pair. 5 November – A new record high efficiency of 33.9% is reported for a silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell. This also surpasses the Shockley-Quieser theoretical limit of 33.7% of single junction solar cells for the first time. 6 November – Scientists release the first connectome of neuropeptide signaling in an animal nervous system (C. elegans). On 1 November, a functional atlas of signal propagation in 23,433 pairs of neurons across the worm's head by direct optogenetic activation is published. On 17 November, the development of fluorescent neuropeptide sensors is reported. 7 November – A study finds that "catastrophic ecosystem collapse" of UK forests is likely within the next 50 years, due to a wide range of factors. 8 November – In 10 studies, researchers of the Sc2.0 project report yeast with a half-synthetic genome. 9 November – Surgeons report the first human eye transplant; the patient did not regain sight in the transplanted eye. 10 November – A new scalable technique for carbon nanotube-based MOSFETs is demonstrated.
== Uses == Cell-free synthetic pathway biotransformation biosystems are proposed as a new low-cost biomanufacturing platform compared to microbial fermentation used for thousands of years. Cell-free biosystems have several advantages suitable in industrial applications:
On October 17, faced with the PAVN's demonstrated ability to fight a conventional battle, the French command decided to abandon Lạng Sơn before it could come under attack, leaving behind considerable amounts of military supplies. The Viet-Minh now controlled most of the northern half of Tonkin.
