Identity and purity are assessed with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the peptide from truncated or oxidized forms. Mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular weight, and peptide mapping after enzymatic digestion verifies the amino acid sequence. Water content is measured because residual moisture affects stability, and tests for aggregates or particulates are standard for injectable peptides. Circular dichroism can indicate whether the molecule has adopted an unexpected secondary structure in solution.
Research supply is often accompanied by a certificate of analysis listing chromatographic purity, mass confirmation, and storage conditions. Laboratories compare that document with an independent test when material is intended for bench work, since certificates describe a batch rather than an individual vial. Published studies usually state the source and purity of the peptide because small differences in purity can shift measured activity. Full analytical validation is rarely reported, which leaves batch-to-batch comparability an open question.
Pharmacodynamic studies show that tesamorelin reduces visceral adipose tissue more than subcutaneous adipose tissue in the studied population. This selectivity may relate to differences in blood flow and hormone sensitivity between fat depots. Effects on glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity have been investigated, with some trials reporting modest changes and others showing stability. The precise relationship between growth hormone exposure, IGF-1 levels, and visceral fat loss remains an active area of analysis.
Tesamorelin binds to growth hormone-releasing hormone receptors on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary. Receptor activation increases intracellular cyclic AMP and promotes synthesis and secretion of growth hormone. Because the peptide mimics endogenous GHRH, it amplifies the normal pulsatile release of growth hormone rather than providing exogenous growth hormone directly. This upstream action distinguishes tesamorelin from recombinant growth hormone preparations and from growth hormone secretagogues that act at different receptors.

=== Pharmacodynamics === (+)-Desmetramadol is a G-protein biased μ-opioid receptor full agonist. It shows comparatively far lower affinity for the δ- and κ-opioid receptors. The two enantiomers of desmetramadol show quite distinct pharmacological profiles; both (+) and (−)-desmetramadol are inactive as serotonin reuptake inhibitors, but (−)-desmetramadol retains activity as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, and so the mix of both the parent compound and metabolites contributes significantly to the complex pharmacological profile of tramadol. While the multiple receptor targets can be beneficial in the treatment of pain (especially complex pain syndromes such as neuropathic pain), they increase the potential for drug interactions compared to other opioids, and may also contribute to side effects. Desmetramadol is also an antagonist of the serotonin 5-HT2C receptor, at pharmacologically relevant concentrations, via competitive inhibition. This suggests that the apparent anti-depressant properties of tramadol may be at least partially mediated by desmetramadol, thus prolonging the duration of therapeutic benefit. Inhibition of the 5-HT2C receptor is a suggested factor in the mechanism of anti-depressant effects of agomelatine and maprotiline. The potential selectivity and favorable side effect profile of desmetramadol compared to tramadol, makes it more suitable for use as antidepressant, although clinical development appears to have stopped.

Curcumin incorporates a seven carbon linker and three major functional groups: an α,β-unsaturated β-diketone moiety and an aromatic O-methoxy-phenolic group. The aromatic ring systems, which are phenols, are connected by two α,β-unsaturated carbonyl groups. It is a diketone tautomer, existing in enolic form in organic solvents and in keto form in water. The diketones form stable enols and are readily deprotonated to form enolates, which bind metal ions to form acetylacetonate-like complexes. Its complexing properties are manifesting in its reaction with boric acid to give a red-colored rosocyanine. Because of its hydrophobic nature, curcumin is poorly soluble in water but is easily soluble in organic solvents. Curcumin and curcuminoids are chelators of metal ions, including iron and copper.
Clytia medusa that are produced from a single polyp colony are also genetically identical, presenting a huge advantage for gene function analysis as well as genome sequencing. Cnidarians are known for their ability to rapidly heal and regenerate their tissues, a function that C. hemisphaerica also possesses. This makes Clytia an ideal candidate for studying the dynamics of tissue regeneration and epithelial wound-healing in-vivo, since the organism's small size allows its healing process be filmed under a microscope in real-time.
TDL Group recorded $1.48 billion in sales in 2005. Tim Hortons also operates locations on Canadian and American university campuses, including Brock University, Durham College, Georgian College, Algonquin College, Canisius College, York University, Toronto Metropolitan University, University at Buffalo, SUNY Plattsburgh, University of British Columbia, Memorial University of Newfoundland, University of Western Ontario, and Simon Fraser University. In March 2010, Tim Hortons announced further expansion on both sides of the Canada–US border to be completed by 2013. The plan called for 600 new stores in Canada (primarily in Quebec and Western Canada but also including smaller communities) and 300 new stores in the U.S. (primarily in its existing markets of Michigan, New York, and Ohio). It also called for expansion into such non-standard store locations as hospitals, universities, and airports, as well as extending its co-branding initiative with U.S. ice cream chain Cold Stone Creamery, which began in 2009, to cover 60 Canadian stores and 25 to 35 new and existing U.S. stores. It also included testing a new café/bake shop concept in at least 10 existing U.S. locations, including "enhanced finishes, fixtures, and seating areas" as well as an expansion of menu offerings. In 2010, Tim Hortons opened what were then its northernmost locations: three kiosks at NorthMart stores in Iqaluit, Nunavut. This expanded Tim Hortons' presence in every province and territory of Canada.

In late January, several CDC websites, pages, and datasets related to HIV and STI prevention, and LGBT and youth health became unavailable for viewing. In mid-February, around 1,300 CDC employees were laid off. In April, it was reported that among the reductions were the elimination of the Freedom of Information Act team, the Division of Violence Prevention, labs involved in testing for antibiotic resistance, and the team responsible for recalls of hazardous infant products. Additional cuts affected the technology branch of the Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics, which was established during the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 25, 2025, Kennedy announced that the U.S. was stopping its donations to the Gavi vaccine alliance, until Gavi can better demonstrate vaccine safety. The United States had been providing approximately 13 percent of Gavi's budget. On August 5, 2025, Secretary Kennedy announced that he was stopping 22 vaccine projects using mRNA technology, including Covid, RSV, and bird flu. A critic of this funding halt pointed out that mRNA vaccines have the potential for faster roll-out. On December 5, 2025, it was no longer systematically recommended for newborns of mothers having never gotten Hepatitis B to get vaccinated against this infection. The memos sparked indignation among most health experts. On February 24, 2026, more than a dozen U.S.

The Spartanburg Pellagra Hospital in Spartanburg, South Carolina, was the first facility in the United States dedicated to discovering the cause of pellagra. It was established in 1914 with a special Congressional appropriation to the U.S. Public Health Service and set up primarily for research. In 1915, Dr. Joseph Goldberger, assigned to study pellagra by the surgeon general of the United States, showed it was linked to diet by observing the outbreaks of pellagra in orphanages and mental hospitals. Goldberger noted that children between the ages of 6 and 12 (but not older or younger children at the orphanages) and patients at the mental hospitals (but not doctors or nurses) were the ones who seemed most susceptible to pellagra. Goldberger theorized that a lack of meat, milk, eggs, and legumes made those particular populations susceptible to pellagra. By modifying the diet served in these institutions with "a marked increase in the fresh animal and the leguminous protein foods," Goldberger was able to show that pellagra could be prevented. By 1926, Goldberger established that a diet that included these foods, or a small amount of brewer's yeast, prevented pellagra. Goldberger experimented on 11 prisoners (one was dismissed because of prostatitis). Before the experiment, the prisoners were eating the prison fare fed to all inmates at Rankin Prison Farm in Mississippi. Goldberger started feeding them a restricted diet of grits, syrup, mush, biscuits, cabbage, sweet potatoes, rice, collards, and coffee with sugar (no milk).
Somali cuisine is a mixture of various culinary influences that is derived from Arab, Indian, and Italian flavours as a direct result of Somalia's extensive history of trade and commerce. Examples of Somali dishes include staples like rice and pasta, along with meats such as lamb, beef, and chicken. Aromatic spices such as cumin, cardamom, and coriander are often used to give distinct flavours to dishes. Alongside stews, traditional flatbreads, and pastries, another Somali dish is the "Canjeero/Lahooh", a variation of fermented pancake-like flatbread that is savoured in Somalia and in neighbouring countries like Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Yemen. Additionally, camel meat and milk are considered a delicacy. Somali rice, the usual staple for dinner or lunch, is typically seasoned and mixed with various ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and, in a somewhat unique manner, raisins. It is not uncommon for this dish to be presented in a visually appealing manner by incorporating multiple colours, as certain portions may be artificially tinted with shades of yellow or orange using saffron and other spices to enhance its aesthetic appeal.
States choose to balance for two reasons. First, they place their survival at risk if they fail to curb a potential hegemon before it becomes too strong; to ally with the dominant power means placing one's trust in its continued benevolence. Secondly, joining the weaker side increases the likelihood that the new member will be influential within the alliance. States choose to bandwagon because it may be a form of appeasement as the bandwagoner may hope to avoid an attack by diverting it elsewhere—a defensive reason—or because it may align with the dominant side in wartime to share the spoils of victory—an offensive reason. Realists claim that balancing is when states ally against the prevailing threat and results in a more secure world whereas in a bandwagoning world security is scarce as rising hegemons are not kept in check. With bandwagoning, the threatened state abandons hope of preventing the aggressor from gaining power at its expense and instead joins forces with its dangerous foe to get at least some small portion of the spoils of war. The weaker the state the more likely it is to bandwagon than to balance as they do little to affect the outcome and thus must choose the winning side. Strong states may change a losing side into a winning side and thus are more likely to balance. States will be tempted to bandwagon when allies are unavailable, however excessive confidence in allied support encourages weak states to free ride relying on the efforts of others to provide security.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration does not specifically set exposure limits for radium, and instead limits ionizing radiation exposure in units of roentgen equivalent man based on the exposed area of the body. Radium sources themselves, rather than worker exposures, are regulated more closely by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which requires licensing for anyone possessing 226Ra with activity of more than 0.01 μCi. The particular governing bodies that regulate radioactive materials and nuclear energy are documented by the Nuclear Energy Agency for member countries – for instance, in the Republic of Korea, the nation's radiation safety standards are managed by the Korea Radioisotope Institute, established in 1985, and the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, established in 1990 – and the IAEA leads efforts in establishing governing bodies in locations that do not have government regulations on radioactive materials.

Repeated bombing of Bremen in World War II resulted in the mass-production plants being moved to eastern Germany and General Government, with AGO Flugzeugwerke of Oschersleben as a major subcontractor for the Fw 190. Those plants used many foreign and forced labourers, and from 1944 also prisoners of war. Focke-Wulf's 100-acre (0.40 km2) plant at Marienburg produced approximately half of all Fw 190s and was bombed by the Eighth Air Force on 9 October 1943. Many Focke-Wulf workers, including Kurt Tank, worked at the Instituto Aerotécnico in Córdoba, Argentina between 1947 and 1955. Others, like Henrich Focke, went to Brazil's Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, helping Brazil's effort to build Embraer. Focke-Wulf began to make gliders in 1951, and in 1955, motorised planes. Focke-Wulf, Weserflug and Hamburger Flugzeugbau joined forces in 1961 to form the Entwicklungsring Nord (ERNO) to develop rockets. ITT Corporation, which had acquired a 25% stake in the company prior to the war, won $27 million in compensation in the 1960s for the damage that was inflicted on its share of the Focke-Wulf plant by WWII Allied bombing. Colonel Sosthenes Behn, Ludwig Roselius and Barbara Goette outfoxed Hitler in 1936 when he tried to have Roselius removed as a major stakeholder from Focke-Wulf A.G. and reconstitution followed resulting in the privatized company Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau GmbH.
== Interfacial potential == An interface is defined as the common boundary formed between two different phases, such as between a solid and gas. Electric potential, or charge, is the result of an object's capacity to be moved in an electric field. An interfacial potential is thus defined as a charge located at the common boundary between two phases (for example, an amino acid such as glutamate on the surface of a protein can have its side chain carboxylic acid deprotonated in environments with pH greater than 4.1 to produce a charged amino acid at the surface, which would create an interfacial potential). Interfacial potential is responsible for the formation of the electric double layer, which has a broad range of applications in what is termed electrokinetic phenomena. The development of the theory of the electric double layer is described below.

Lyophilized material is typically kept refrigerated and away from light in the sealed vial provided. Dissolved material is generally used within a limited period rather than stored long term.
Mass spectrometry gives the molecular weight, and mapping after digestion gives sequence coverage. Reversed-phase chromatography then supplies a purity profile.
Different groups report purity with different methods and thresholds, and full validation data are seldom published. Direct comparison of activity across batches therefore stays uncertain.
It targets the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells. Binding stimulates cyclic AMP signaling and growth hormone secretion. This is the same receptor used by endogenous GHRH.
