Identity and purity are assessed with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the peptide from truncated or oxidized forms. Mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular weight, and peptide mapping after enzymatic digestion verifies the amino acid sequence. Water content is measured because residual moisture affects stability, and tests for aggregates or particulates are standard for injectable peptides. Circular dichroism can indicate whether the molecule has adopted an unexpected secondary structure in solution.
Research supply is often accompanied by a certificate of analysis listing chromatographic purity, mass confirmation, and storage conditions. Laboratories compare that document with an independent test when material is intended for bench work, since certificates describe a batch rather than an individual vial. Published studies usually state the source and purity of the peptide because small differences in purity can shift measured activity. Full analytical validation is rarely reported, which leaves batch-to-batch comparability an open question.
The peptide is supplied as a lyophilized powder in single-use vials and is normally kept refrigerated between two and eight degrees Celsius, protected from light. Once dissolved, the solution is handled carefully because peptide bonds and the acyl modification can degrade under warm or alkaline conditions. Vials are inspected for cracks, and the powder is checked for color and uniformity before handling. Temperature excursions during shipping are a frequent reason for quality questions.
Pharmacodynamic studies show that tesamorelin reduces visceral adipose tissue more than subcutaneous adipose tissue in the studied population. This selectivity may relate to differences in blood flow and hormone sensitivity between fat depots. Effects on glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity have been investigated, with some trials reporting modest changes and others showing stability. The precise relationship between growth hormone exposure, IGF-1 levels, and visceral fat loss remains an active area of analysis.
Tesamorelin binds to growth hormone-releasing hormone receptors on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary. Receptor activation increases intracellular cyclic AMP and promotes synthesis and secretion of growth hormone. Because the peptide mimics endogenous GHRH, it amplifies the normal pulsatile release of growth hormone rather than providing exogenous growth hormone directly. This upstream action distinguishes tesamorelin from recombinant growth hormone preparations and from growth hormone secretagogues that act at different receptors.

Alexandre Marc Raymond was born on 22 January 1872 in Constantinople, in Turkey, then part of the Ottoman Empire. He was the son of Marc Raymond, architect, born in Constantinople in 1846, and Rose Valsamaki, Greek Orthodox, born in Cephalonia. In 1894, he began studying at Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (School of Fine Arts) in Constantinople where he was a student of Alexander Vallaury.
However, with more recent advances in disease specific therapies, survival in 2010 was 86%, 69%, and 61% at 1, 3 and 5 years respectively. Signs and symptoms may be initially non-specific and may lead to a delay in appropriate diagnosis. Early symptoms include breathlessness (dyspnea). Other symptoms include fatigue, lightheadedness or fainting and chest pain. Late findings include swelling of the extremities, edema and ascites (which are signs of right heart failure). Lower estimates regarding the prevalence of PAH are 15 cases per million adults with idiopathic PAH being 5.9 cases per million, with other estimates being 25 cases per 1 million people. In Europe, the prevalence ranges from 15 to 60 cases per year. More than half of PAH is believed to be idiopathic, drug induced or heritable. Disease specific therapy involves targeting the various aberrant pathways involved in the disease. PDE5 inhibitors are used which cause dilation of blood vessels. Riociguat also causes vasodilation. Endothelin receptor antagonists cause vasodilation as well by blocking the action of the potent vasoconstrictor endothelin-1. Prostacyclins and prostacyclin agonists also cause vasodilation and also inhibit platelet aggregation. In disease that is refractory to medical therapy, an atrial septostomy may be used palliatively or as a bridge to lung transplantation.
There is no curative treatment. The disease remains progressive and fatal. Current treatment is aimed towards improving mitochondrial function through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Multiple case studies have suggested that implementation of the Ketogenic diet may help reduce the incidence of stroke-like episodes associated with MELAS, one of the most common clinical features. Ketogenic diet therapy helps with the clearance of reactive-oxygen species (ROS), which commonly accumulate and harm the mitochondria in MELAS. Other supplementation treatments have been studied:

This method of mildly generating acid chlorides can also be useful for linking alpha-anomeric sugars. After using the cyclopropenium ion to form the chloride at the anomeric carbon, the compound is iodinated with tetrabutylammonium iodide. This iodine can thereafter be substituted by any ROH group to quickly undergo alpha-selective linkage of sugars.
The Slave Trade Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 25, 1807, making the slave trade illegal throughout the British Empire, Wilberforce also campaigned for abolition of slavery in the British Empire, which he lived to see in the Slavery Abolition Act 1833. After the 1807 act abolishing the slave trade was passed, these campaigners switched to encouraging other countries to follow suit, notably France and the British colonies. Between 1808 and 1860, the British West Africa Squadron seized approximately 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 Africans who were aboard. Action was also taken against African leaders who refused to agree to British treaties to outlaw the trade, for example against "the usurping King of Lagos", deposed in 1851. Anti-slavery treaties were signed with over 50 African rulers.

=== Distillation === Distilled water is produced by a process of distillation. Distillation involves boiling the water and then condensing the vapor into a clean container, leaving solid contaminants behind. Distillation produces very pure water. A white or yellowish mineral scale is left in the distillation apparatus, which requires regular cleaning. Distilled water, like all purified water, must be stored in a sterilized container to guarantee the absence of bacteria. For many procedures, more economical alternatives are available, such as deionized water, and are used in place of distilled water.
== Partnerships == The company entered into a co-marketing and sales agreement with Thermo Fisher Scientific in November 2024 to promote the integration of Seer’s Proteograph system with Thermo Fisher’s Orbitrap mass spectrometers. In June 2025, Seer announced a collaboration with Korea University and major Korean cancer centers, including Seoul National University Hospital and Samsung Medical Center. The partnership will support a large-scale plasma proteomics study aimed at identifying blood-based biomarkers for cancers in young adults. The study will utilize Seer’s Proteograph platform and a mass spectrometer from Thermo Fisher Scientific to analyze over 20,000 plasma samples.

== Medical uses == Selenium disulfide is sold as an antifungal agent in shampoos (such as Selsun Blue) for the treatment of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis associated in the scalp with fungi of genus Malassezia. It is also used on the body to treat tinea versicolor (pityriasis versicolor), a type of fungal skin infection caused by a different species of Malassezia. A 2015 systematic review of topical treatments for seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp identified only a single randomized controlled trial evaluating selenium disulfide for the condition. It was a three-arm trial of 246 people with moderate to severe dandruff and compared treatment with 2% ketoconazole shampoo (n=97), 2.5% selenium disulfide shampoo (n=100), and placebo (shampoo base with no antiseborrheic agent) (n=49) for 29 days. The study found a 73% reduction in dandruff score with ketoconazole, a 67% reduction with selenium disulfide, and a 45% reduction with placebo. Based on the study, the systematic review concluded that selenium disulfide may be effective in the treatment of dandruff but that the available evidence is limited and overall evidence quality is low. It also found that while selenium disulfide has infrequent side effects, it seems to have more side effects than ketoconazole shampoo. Consequently, the review concluded that selenium disulfide should not be considered as a first-line therapy but instead should be used as an alternative treatment after other therapies like ketoconazole shampoo have proven not effective.
Beta decay leaves the mass number unchanged, so the change of nuclear spin must be an integer. However, the electron spin is 1/2, hence angular momentum would not be conserved if beta decay were simply electron emission. From 1920 to 1927, Charles Drummond Ellis (along with Chadwick and colleagues) further established that the beta decay spectrum is continuous. In 1933, Ellis and Nevill Mott obtained strong evidence that the beta spectrum has an effective upper bound in energy. Niels Bohr had suggested that the beta spectrum could be explained if conservation of energy was true only in a statistical sense, thus this principle might be violated in any given decay. However, the upper bound in beta energies determined by Ellis and Mott ruled out that notion. Now, the problem of how to account for the variability of energy in known beta decay products, as well as for conservation of momentum and angular momentum in the process, became acute. In a famous letter written in 1930, Wolfgang Pauli attempted to resolve the beta-particle energy conundrum by suggesting that, in addition to electrons and protons, atomic nuclei also contained an extremely light neutral particle, which he called the neutron. He suggested that this "neutron" was also emitted during beta decay (thus accounting for the known missing energy, momentum, and angular momentum), but it had simply not yet been observed. In 1931, Enrico Fermi renamed Pauli's "neutron" the "neutrino" ('little neutral one' in Italian).
In the Philippines, the first Mister Donut store opened in 1982 in Manila and has become the country's second largest doughnut chain, with Dunkin' Donuts as its main competitor. In 1995, the Ramcar Group took over the Philippine franchise of Mister Donut through its subsidiary, Food Fest, Inc. In 1997, Mister Donut helped finance the country's first ever feature-length animated film, Adarna: The Mythical Bird. Of its 1,800 outlets, the majority are stalls, often located inside shopping malls, while 200 are full-scale stores. Mister Donut products are also sold in 7-Eleven stores and KFC restaurants, the latter also franchised locally by Ramcar. Some locations sell coffee, but they mostly focus on doughnuts, including pasalubong, gifts by visitors to friends and family. The doughnuts sold are adjusted to suit the local market, with smaller sizes, therefore cheaper, and different flavors.
It is speculated that these infections exert their effect by critically altering TH1/TH2 regulation. Important elements of newer hygiene hypotheses also include exposure to endotoxins, exposure to pets and growing up on a farm.
==== Inhalation and smoking ==== Results from epidemiological studies indicate that the risk of lung cancer increases with exposure to residential radon. One well known potential source of error in these studies is smoking, which is the main risk factor for lung cancer. In the US, cigarette smoking is estimated to cause 80% to 90% of all lung cancers. Radon, like other known or suspected external risk factors for lung cancer, is a threat for smokers and former smokers. According to the EPA, the risk of lung cancer for smokers is significantly higher when they are exposed to radon due to the synergistic effects of radon with smoking. For this population, about 62 people in a total of 1,000 will die of lung cancer, compared to 7 people in a total of 1,000 for people who have never smoked. A 2005 review article by Darby and colleagues analyzing 13 different case studies across Europe stated: "It is not appropriate to talk simply of a risk from radon in homes. The risk is from smoking, compounded by a synergistic effect of radon for smokers. Without smoking, the effect seems to be so small as to be insignificant." According to Darby, there is a difference in risk for the histological subtypes of lung cancer and radon exposure. Small-cell lung carcinoma, which has a high correlation with smoking, has a higher risk after radon exposure. For other histological subtypes, such as adenocarcinoma, the type that primarily affects non-smokers, the risk from radon appears to be lower.

Lyophilized material is typically kept refrigerated and away from light in the sealed vial provided. Dissolved material is generally used within a limited period rather than stored long term.
Mass spectrometry gives the molecular weight, and mapping after digestion gives sequence coverage. Reversed-phase chromatography then supplies a purity profile.
Different groups report purity with different methods and thresholds, and full validation data are seldom published. Direct comparison of activity across batches therefore stays uncertain.
It targets the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor on pituitary somatotroph cells. Binding stimulates cyclic AMP signaling and growth hormone secretion. This is the same receptor used by endogenous GHRH.
